Scripture includes: John 11:1-45

Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Beyond Death to New Life”

An amazing sign – a raising of a dead man – prompts a response of faith from Jesus’s friends. Martha can’t help but reply, “Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.” But Jesus is not only “the resurrection” – he is also “the life.” What does it mean for us today to live into our own resurrections into new life? What does it mean to hear Jesus when he calls our name?

This is the Fifth Sunday in Lent. Lent is the season in which we anticipate Jesus’ final trip to Jerusalem and the self-giving nature of love shown in his passion and  death. The season begins with Ash Wednesday and extends for forty days through Saturday of Holy Week. Sundays are excluded from Lent, being regarded as feast days in the midst of the forty-day fast. Lent is a strongly penitential season. The liturgical color is purple, used to symbolize penance, preparation, sacrifice.

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2023, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through in-person and virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.

Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
