Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Back to Basics”
Jesus answered the religious folk much the same way Isaiah spoke to the Hebrew people in exile: get back to the basics. Quit focusing on what you think makes you righteous and focus on loving God and loving your neighbor and yourself. Nothing else you do will matter unless these are your primary focus. As we reflect on and commemorate Reformation Day, we recognize that the work of the institutional church should always be to orient ourselves toward what really matters and set aside those things that no longer serve purpose or even actively keep us from our purpose. We need to get back to basics.
Today is Reformation Sunday, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of October, commemorating the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany. The liturgical color of the day is red, which represents the Holy Spirit and the Martyrs of the Christian Church. Red is also the liturgical color for anniversaries and festival days of the churches.
Giving of our Resources
Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2023, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through in-person and virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.
Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
