Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled “Contentment as Spiritual Discipline”

We learn from 1 Timothy that our faith should lead us to contentment and godliness, and away from distractions like disputes and loving money or other idols. It’s amazing how difficult it is for a Christian to take this exhortation seriously, but we are simply part of a broken world that influences how and what we love. Over and over we are reminded in Scripture to love God above all and love our neighbors as ourselves. Yet we spend so much time living as though we love ourselves and our “stuff” most of all. Our passage from 1 Timothy helps us think through what it means to grow in godliness by reminding us that one of the best spiritual disciplines we can have is learning contentment.
