Associate Pastor for Music & Worship
I’m David Cameron, and I am looking forward to getting to know and love you, as I have grown to know and love my church family at CHBC over the last twenty years. Living out the Love of Christ together is both our greatest command and blessing, and I am confident that through God’s grace and power it will change this world.
I was raised by two loving parents in the small midwestern town of Fairfield Illinois, where I grew to know God and was baptized at FBC Fairfield. Following high school graduation, I attended and graduated from Southwest Baptist University, in Bolivar, MO with a B.M. degree in Church music. After college graduation and a term spent as a summer missionary in Neosho, MO, I started seminary at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
While earning a Masters of Church Music degree at Southern, with an emphasis in voice and Church Music Drama, I managed to win the heart of Mary Helen Scott. We have been happily married since 1997. Mary Helen serves as Minister of Music at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church of Bassett, Va. and as a reading paraprofessional at Drewry Mason School.
We take joy in the children of our church families but have not been blessed with children of our own. We do have an entitled housecat named Mewsette who often acts like willful two-year-old.
After graduating seminary, I served for a little over a year as associate minister and was ordained by Westside Baptist church in Corsicana, Texas. I accepted the call to Chatham Heights Baptist Church of Martinsville in 2001.
While here in Martinsville, I have served on various committees of the HCBA, and been part of the Virginia Baptist Male Chorale, Gaudete, Smith River Singers, and Still Water vocal ensemble. I have also acted roles in four Theater Works productions.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, woodworking, reading, and travel along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thank you for the opportunity to serve Christ alongside you here at First Baptist!
