Blessing of the Animals

New this year – First Baptist will host a Blessing of the Animals service the week of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (patron saint of ecology/animals), which is October 4th. We will gather on a Sunday afternoon in the Sanctuary of Nature and honor the beauty of God’s creation, recognize our mutual interdependence with all of God’s creatures, and share in the love and care of the created world together.
Who’s invited: Everyone! Come and be a part of the service with us whether you bring a pet with you or not. If you bring your pet, please be sure they are on a leash or in someone’s arms for safety, as we are located on a busy street. All pets are welcome, too. Owners are responsible for cleanup for their pet as needed. If you will be bringing a more exotic or larger pet, please let the church office know so we can be sure to accommodate you.
Where it is: FBC’s Front Lawn on Starling Avenue (rain location: under a tent in the same location – or if too rainy, under the drive-thru near the main door)
What it is: A short service to bless creation and our relationship to all creatures. Then each pet will be blessed by the minister and given a certificate of blessing. A moment of prayer for all those who have lost pets will also be a part of the service.
