Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “A Thanksgiving Prayer”
God has given us the gift of redemption and reconciliation to God in Jesus Christ, and God has also given us a community of faith into which we can live our gratitude to God for that immense mercy. As we recognize how Christ reigns in our lives on Christ the King Sunday, we hold in tension how God is so many things: a king who suffers and serves, a Creator who enters our midst as a vulnerable baby. And for the gift of a God who knows and understands us, loves us and gives us grace, we give thanks, just as Paul did for the church in Colossae.
Today is Christ the King/Reign of Christ Sunday, the final Sunday of the season after Pentecost and the liturgical church year, which begins anew with the first Sunday of Advent next week. The focus of today’s worship is God’s ultimate victory and reign through Jesus Christ, punctuated by Christ’s unique approach to kingship, in service and love of God and others. The liturgical color is white, symbolizing the purity and light of Christ.
