Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “In Medias Res”
In Medias Res, Latin for “in the middle of things,” describes well where we situate our Gospel lesson this week. This week we see how ordinary fishermen doing ordinary things are called by a rabbi doing the work of his daily vocation to a holy and unique call on their lives. Jesus calls them both away from their work to new work and yet tells them to make their work holy through following him and his teachings. We too are “in the middle of things” – our work, our ministries, our lives. How are we being disciples in medias res?
This Sunday is the Fifth Sunday After Epiphany in the Christian year. Epiphany (January 6) celebrates the manifestation of God in Jesus Christ. The Season of Epiphany continues this emphasis, calling attention to the words and deeds of Jesus’ earthly ministry. The liturgical color is green, representing new life and growth. On the first Sunday of each month, we celebrate communion, and the liturgical color changes to white to recognize the holiness and majesty of Christ.
Giving of our Resources
Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2021, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through in-person and virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.
