Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Who are you, really?”
Jesus’s temptation in the desert at the beginning of his ministry was a series of tests to show who he really is. Of course, he passed with flying colors! How is our response to temptations and tests going? How can this season of spiritual growth during Lent help us manifest the kind of response Jesus would give, rather than the usual, sinful human responses?
Today is the First Sunday in Lent. Lent is the season in which we anticipate Jesus’ final trip to Jerusalem and the self-giving nature of love shown in his passion and death. The season begins with Ash Wednesday and extends for forty days through Saturday of Holy Week. Sundays are excluded from Lent, being regarded as feast days in the midst of the forty-day fast. Lent is a strongly penitential season. The liturgical color is purple, used to symbolize penance, preparation, sacrifice.
Giving of our Resources
Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2023, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through in-person and virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.
Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
