Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Dead or Alive?”

Walking through the wilderness of Lent, we are often confronted with our mortality and our brokenness. We work on repentance of sin in our lives. We focus our hearts on God and try to look away from the things that distract us. Our text from Ephesians this week reminds us, though, that for all our striving in this season, the bottom line is that God’s grace is sufficient to lift us up from moving through our lives in a dead way, to living abundantly in Christ. Holding on to that promise should guide us through this season.

Today is the Fourth Sunday in Lent. Lent is the season in which we anticipate Jesus’ final trip to Jerusalem and the self-giving nature of love shown in his passion and  death. The season begins with Ash Wednesday and extends for forty days through Saturday of Holy Week. Sundays are excluded from Lent, being regarded as feast days in the midst of the forty-day fast. Lent is a strongly penitential season. The liturgical color is purple, used to symbolize penance, preparation, sacrifice.

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2021, even as we cannot meet in person each week. You can give online here or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.

Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
