Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “But First, Jesus

Our passage from the Book of Hebrews this week reminds us that whatever else might separate us, what draws us together is following Jesus. From many cultures and many backgrounds, we recognize together that this person, this human-yet-divine person, came to embody both “glory and humiliation, power and suffering, authority and servanthood, radical grace and radical obedience” for our sakes. A cosmic God has come to us to be one of us, to share in our lives – including the suffering. We can rejoice in a God who chooses to be with us – and learn to rejoice that all people are brought to this table of grace to meet this loving and powerful God incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ.

Today is World Communion Sunday, which is observed annually on the first Sunday in October. In a time when fear and violence divide the people of God’s earth, World Communion Sunday reminds us of our unity through Christ. Christians in congregations around the world are participating in communion today, and First Baptist Church joins our brothers and sisters in all nations as we gather around the table to remember Christ’s sacrifice.

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2021, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through in-person and virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.

Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
