Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Blessed is the Rejected”

God’s wisdom is often at odds with the wisdom of people, and that’s where we need to focus our attention as we remember Christ’s walk toward the Cross and Easter morning this Holy Week. As the Psalmist tells us, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” What seems weak or unworthy may just be what God has in mind to bring about the Kingdom of God. What might that mean for us as a congregation and a small community of faith in a rural city in Southwest Virginia? As Jesus is celebrated walking into Jerusalem, only to be rejected by the people, we need to realize that God has unusual plans for this world – plans of wholeness and resurrection brought about through the unlikeliest of people and actions.

Today is Palm Sunday, marking the beginning of Holy Week in the Christian calendar. These are some of the most significant days of the church year. The blessing and procession of palms reenacts the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. During Holy Week, we focus intensely on Jesus’ last days, his execution, his burial, and finally, with Easter Sunday, his resurrection.

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2021, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office.
