Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Unlocked Doors”
It seems very appropriate this year as we start to move out of pandemic life into post-pandemic life and we literally unlock the doors and as safely as we can and gather indoors for worship together, that we read with fresh eyes our text from John 20. Jesus appears to the disciples “behind locked doors” after the resurrection. He gives them peace (and boy, don’t we need that after the year we’ve had!) and then he gives them the Holy Spirit and says, “I have a job for you to do.” And he sends them as apostles to forgive sins and share this story of Good News. We have more peace than we’ve had in a year, and now we’re being called to go from disciples (the followers) to apostles (the sent). Are we ready to receive that peace and do that work?
Today is the Second Sunday of Easter. Easter Sunday was the beginning of the season of Eastertide in the liturgical year. Eastertide is celebrated from Easter Sunday for fifty days, until the day of Pentecost, and focuses on the meaning of Christ’s resurrection. The liturgical color is white, symbolizing light, victory, and eternal life.
Giving of our Resources
Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2021, even as we cannot meet in person each week. You can give online here or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.
Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
