Scripture includes: Mark 8:31-38

Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Journey to the Cross: Take Up your Cross and Follow Me”

Jesus asked a lot of the disciples when he called them to follow, even rebuking them for assuming following him would not come with sacrifice. In our community, it can be hard to serve others in Christ’s name, especially those with little or no voice in the public square. We’ll invite Mychal Joseph Gallop for a Q&A this Sunday about his ministry with those in our community experiencing homelessness.

Today is the Second Sunday in Lent. Lent is the season in which we anticipate Jesus’ final trip to Jerusalem and the self-giving nature of love shown in his passion and death. The season begins with Ash Wednesday and extends for forty days through Saturday of Holy Week. Sundays are excluded from Lent, being regarded as feast days in the midst of the forty-day fast. Lent is a strongly penitential season. The liturgical color is purple, used to symbolize penance, preparation, sacrifice.

During the season of Lent, in a series called, “Journey to the Cross: Sacrifice in Real Life” we will explore the theme of sacrifice and how we see it lived out in the journey to the cross in scripture and our own journey to the cross as we experience this season of penitence together.

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2024, whether in-person or online here – or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through in-person and virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.

Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
