Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “The Gospel According to Mark”

Mark was likely the first of the four Gospels that was written, and Mark kept it concise and straightforward. His first few words might have even created a whole genre of literature when he says, “The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God,” because our English word “Gospel” translates the Greek word that means “Good News.” Here’s the First Gospel! And according to Mark, this good news of the coming Messiah is one we need to prepare for, as he tells the story of Jesus’s forerunner John the Baptist. The prophet-like John told everyone Jesus was coming, and to prepare for it, he said, “Confess your sins. Get baptized. Repent.” And while we can never earn the grace Christ gave us, we certainly must prepare ourselves to receive it. Let’s join in and learn from Mark about John and how we too might prepare for the coming of Good News this season.

Each Sunday during Advent, some of our newer church families will read the texts and light the candles of the Advent wreath. Reading the text today is Kaylee, Austin, and Adalyn White. They have been attending church since Kaylee was hired as our Financial Secretary earlier this year.

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2020, even as we cannot meet in person each week. You can give online here or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.

Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
