Join Us for a Service of Worship

Sunday, August 11, 2019, 11:00 AM
Ninth Sunday After Pentecost

Scriptures include: Genesis 15:1-6 and Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16

Rev. Libby Grammer will preach the first sermon in a three-part series entitled “By Faith.”

This week’s sermon is “By Faith, A beginning”

Like any good story, our faith stories begin somewhere, move through a journey, and find resolution. For the next three Sundays, we will journey together through the concept of faith – where it begins, how it can stay constant, and how it leads us to mystery we can embrace with our obedience to a call from God.

This Sunday, our texts tell us the familiar story of Abraham and Sarah’s faith, of a family committed to God’s call, even when the promises seemed far away. We see a beginning for a people of faith – the Hebrew people. It can be difficult to follow God when we cannot see the exact place God is leading us. Our faith only persists because like Abraham and Sarah, we know that we are assured of God’s everlasting love for us, and thus we experience the hope for those “things hoped for…things not yet seen.”
