Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled “Baptismal Grace”

Baptists get their name from John the Baptizer, the cousin of Jesus, the prophet who foretold Christ’s coming, and the one who baptized Jesus at the start of his ministry. Baptism is one of two holy ordinances we observe, alongside Holy Communion. We believe baptism to be central to the life of Christians everywhere. What I think we lose in our practice of baptism sometimes is God’s grace that we receive through the watery commissioning we accept through this rite. It is not simply our *decision* that God blesses through our baptism, it is our very *nature* as a child of God. Christ became one of us, was baptized, and we too now follow in his footsteps. And God says to Jesus – and to us – that we are beloved. What a gift of grace – and what an opportunity to live into that grace and share it as we embody the name Baptist through our living as if our baptism matters, each and every day!
