Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled “Leave it All and Follow the Light”
Leaving behind all we’ve known to embark on a new journey doesn’t come naturally to us. I imagine it didn’t for the first disciples, either. But this Jesus, this message, was so inviting, so illuminating, that they didn’t hesitate when he said, “Follow me.” The season of Epiphany began with a light that opened the door to all people, inviting the magi to the incarnation of God. Now, here is a dark place Jesus enters in Galilee at the start of his ministry, offering light and hope once again. And these disciples drop everything, change what they’ve done forever, so that they can follow him. In a new age of church life, we may have to do the same. Are we so taken by Christ’s light that we can allow ourselves to see more clearly, to follow without hesitation?
