Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “More than Enough”
Our Gospel lesson from Matthew this week is the parable of the sower, or the parable of the soils. To 21st century ears, this story seems implausible at best, downright silly at worst. Why would a sower indiscriminately scatter seed like that – where it falls on all kinds of soil and might not grow? Does the sower not realize that more than half the seed will not yield a crop? But Jesus says that a good sower is a high-risk sower, trusting that what needs to grow will grow. And the parable doesn’t end with just a normal harvest (which would be good enough!), it ends with far more than enough – a hundredfold harvest! So often we think things are about to run out – money, time, energy, etc. – but God says “keep sowing indiscriminately, share, share, share. You might just be surprised at the yield.”
