In 21st century Christian life, we aren’t usually considering what it means to be in covenant as a community with God. “Covenant” seems like a word reserved for ancient texts, not real life. But what would it look like to envision our lives as being in covenant relationship with a God who chooses to make promises to us? When Jesus came and grafted the Gentile world into God’s covenant with Israel, what of God’s promises did we inherit? Being in relationship to God, remembering what God has done for us, and accepting the responsibilities of that covenant relationship are still part of our faith journeys today. Let’s examine what it means to be God’s covenant people.
