First Sunday in Lent
Scriptures include: Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-7 and Matthew 4:1-11

God’s mission for humankind was begun in the garden – to be in relationship to God and to do God’s work in this world. But we become distracted and lose sight of that focus, instead latching on to promises of power that harm our souls. Jesus in his temptations shows us another way – while we may never achieve the perfect reaction to temptation like Jesus, even in the midst of brokenness and temptation in this world, we can return to the path of righteousness. That’s what Lent calls us to do – open our souls to forgiveness for when we have failed and given in to temptation, then walk alongside Jesus in the wilderness, staying on the path of love, despite our surroundings.
