Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “The In-Between”
Our Gospel lesson situates itself in between Jesus’s life/teachings and his death/ resurrection. It’s an in-between space, where hearts are troubled and fears abound. It’s a place where the disciples need reassurance and comfort. We use this text so often at the in-between of life with a person and life without a person: at the funeral or the graveside. The hope of eternity, coupled with the reality of impending death, is where the disciples find themselves with Jesus. I think we’re also at an in-between space right now in our shared communal life. We are in between life-as-it-always-was and life-as-it-will-be. How do we live now, with the potential for illness and death around every corner? How do we hope for the future when reopening our lives makes so many of us so vulnerable? How do we thrive in the in-between? Perhaps Jesus’s words have new meaning for us in these in-between days.
Giving of our Resources
Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church, even as we cannot meet in person each week. You can give online here or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to offer ministry to our church members through virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.
We are in the midst of new missions opportunities during this season of pandemic. We want to serve our neighbors, and to do that, we need your generous giving. Click here to see what we’re up to, and make a special donation to our Missions Opportunity fund by designating your online gift or mailed check in the memo line. Don’t know how much to give? Note that each meal we serve to our essential personnel costs about $120. Would you be willing to sponsor a meal (or half a meal, or a couple of meals)?
Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
