Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Spirit Control”

The Holy Spirit is one of the most mysterious and yet closest parts of God to humanity. The Spirit “blows where it will” and causes men and women to prophesy. The Spirit moves us from complacency to action. But, we often seek to control the Spirit, limiting its power in our lives. We control it with our rules and traditions. We control it with our grumbling and our fussing. We control it by rejecting its creative power in our lives. Like the story of the fall of humanity, we are seeking to be like, or to control what it is to be God. But what would it mean for our church, our community, if we stopped trying to stuff the Spirit into our boxes? What if we let the Spirit control us – empowering us to love more expansively, worship more creatively, serve more frequently? What would the fires of Pentecost refine in our lives as we speak new languages and become more open to new ideas?

Giving of our Resources

Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church, even as we cannot meet in person each week. You can give online here or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to offer ministry to our church members through virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.

We are in the midst of new missions opportunities during this season of pandemic. We want to serve our neighbors, and to do that, we need your generous giving. Click here to see what we’re up to, and make a special donation to our Missions Opportunity fund by designating your online gift or mailed check in the memo line.

Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
