Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “A Fool for You”
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a paradox. The wisdom of God seems so foolish to the rest of the world. God shatters human expectations about the One who came to save us by sending Christ in humility to serve and to die. So often we Christians live as if our faith is not a paradox – maybe because Christianity is still pretty much the norm as faith goes in our society. But in reality, much of how we live doesn’t reflect the truly tops-turvy nature of what following Jesus should look like. How can we live into this paradox as we journey together this Lenten season?
Today is the Third Sunday in Lent. Lent is the season in which we anticipate Jesus’ final trip to Jerusalem and the self-giving nature of love shown in his passion and death. The season begins with Ash Wednesday and extends for forty days through Saturday of Holy Week. Sundays are excluded from Lent, being regarded as feast days in the midst of the forty-day fast. Lent is a strongly penitential season. The liturgical color is purple, used to symbolize penance, preparation, sacrifice.
Giving of our Resources
Please continue to give generously to the ministries of our church in 2021, even as we cannot meet in person each week. You can give online here or mail / drop off your tithes and offerings to the church office. Your gifts help us to continue to minister through virtual church services, Bible studies, ministry to the community, and more.
Thank you for providing for the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church!
