Rev. Dr. Libby Grammer will preach a sermon entitled, “Not the Last Supper”
This Sunday, we’ll celebrate communion, commonly called the “Last Supper,” remembering Christ’s final supper with his disciples before his death. Of course, we do that for good reason – he told us to remember! But that final meal before the crucifixion wasn’t Jesus’s last meal with his disciples at all, and the meal in John 21 reminds us of that, and that the call of Jesus to the table is ongoing and part of how we share the Easter story that overcomes that final supper into an unending feast!
Today is the Third Sunday of Easter. Easter Sunday was the beginning of the season of Eastertide in the liturgical year. Eastertide is celebrated from Easter Sunday for fifty days, until the day of Pentecost, and focuses on the meaning of Christ’s resurrection. The liturgical color is white, symbolizing light, victory, and eternal life.
